Orthodontics

Be straight with your smile and build your confidence.

Orthodontics is a field of dentistry that deals with corrections involving jaw and teeth alignment. An orthodontist is a specialist who diagnoses and applies braces.
Braces are applied to teeth for various reasons, including poorly aligned jaws, crooked, crowded and missing teeth, or a bad bite (also called Malocclusion).

Various things can cause teeth to become crooked or jaws misaligned, including thumb-sucking or a traumatic injury. Some conditions are inherited.
Children between the ages of 7 and 14 are typical candidates for braces because their facial structures are still developing. Adult braces usually entail additional procedures because their faces have already fully developed.
At Dr. Kiran’s Clinic in Mississauga we work with you to ensure that you and your children get the best possible care. Please book an appointment to discuss various options available.

Candidates for Orthodontics

Though the cosmetic concerns associated with misalignment remain the most popular reason for orthodontic treatment, there are numerous conditions that can be treated with the latest advances in braces and other correction methods. If you are experiencing any of the following, you may be a candidate for orthodontics:

Excessive spacing, gaps, or missing teeth
Overcrowding or teeth pushed together, making cleaning difficult
Overbite, underbite, or crossbite, causing teeth to wear down or making eating and chewing difficult
Breathing, swallowing, chewing, or biting problems
Low self-image due to dissatisfaction with the appearance of your smile
Pain in the neck, jaw, or jaw joint

Orthodontic Treatment for AdultsOrthodontic treatment is no longer just for teens. In fact, the Canadian Association of Orthodontists states that one in four orthodontic patients is over the age of 21. Many adults are choosing to receive treatment because they understand the importance of maintaining their health, and they want to feel better about their smile. Adults everywhere are taking advantage of the opportunity to receive orthodontic care, and now you can too. With a wide range of Orthodontic options, schedule an appointment at 32 Pearls Dentistry so we can see which options best suits your smile.

Orthodontic Treatment for Children & TeensIt’s a good idea to get an orthodontic evaluation by the time your child is 7 years old.. Every child develops at an independent rate. Traditionally, treatment with dental braces begins when a child has lost most of his or her baby (primary) teeth, and a majority of his or her adult (permanent) teeth have grown in and that is usually between the ages of 8 and 14 years old. Once the permanent incisors and molars have appeared above the gum-line, we can examine your child for anatomic indicators that may benefit from early treatment. In many cases, your child may not require correction until a later date, and we can recommend when you should return for a second assessment of your child’s teeth, bite, and alignment. If correction is advised, it’s important to note that early treatment may help to circumvent more serious dental and oral issues in the future, such as difficulty eating, chewing, speaking, or problems cleaning between teeth than can lead to decay and the need for restorative procedures.
